Create Milestone
Creating a milestone allows you to define significant stages or goals within your project. Milestones help you track progress and align testing efforts with project objectives.
How to Create a Milestone
-
Access the Milestone Timeline Dashboard
- In the top navigation panel, click Milestones.
-
Initiate Creation
-
Click + Milestone in the dashboard.
-
The Create Milestone dialog box appears.
-
-
Define Milestone Details
-
Name: Name the milestone to reflect the milestone’s purpose (e.g., "Feature MVP Launch").
-
Description: Add objectives, scope, owners, or dependencies.
-
Parent: Leave as "None" (default) for a parent milestone.
-
Date Range: Set start and end dates to establish the timeline.
-
-
Save the Milestone
- Click Add Milestone. The milestone will appear under the Milestones Timeline Dashboard.
Create a Sub-Milestone
A sub-milestone is a smaller, more focused milestone that is linked to a parent milestone. Sub-milestones allow you to break down larger milestones into manageable sections, ensuring finer control over progress and deadlines.
-
You can create sub-milestones through multiple methods:
-
Using the "+ Milestone" button
-
Click "+ Milestone" in the Milestone Timeline Dashboard.
-
In the Parent field, select your desired Parent Milestone.
-
-
Via Parent Milestone context menu
-
Locate the Parent Milestone in your dashboard.
-
Click the ⋮ (options) menu associated with it.
-
Select "Add sub-milestone" from the dropdown options.
-
-
From Milestone Status View
-
Navigate to the Parent Milestone's Status View.
-
Find the SUB MILESTONES section.
-
Click the "+" button in the top-right corner of this section.
-
-
-
Follow the same steps as creating a parent milestone:
- Set a Name, dates, and description.
-
Save the Milestone
- Click Add Milestone. The milestone will appear under the Milestones Timeline Dashboard or SUB MILESTONES section.
Note that the system currently supports only two hierarchical levels (parent and sub-milestone).
Best Practices
-
Use Descriptive Titles: Ensure milestones are easily identifiable (e.g., "User Acceptance Testing" vs. "Phase 3").
-
Leverage Sub-Milestones: Break complex phases into smaller tasks (e.g., "API Testing" under "Integration Testing").
-
Align with Dependencies: Adjust dates if upstream/downstream milestones shift.
-
Archive Completed Milestones: Move finished milestones to Completed Milestone list to maintain focus on active work.
